A handcarved and printed two colour reduction block linoprint. Depicting a tulip flower and bulb surrounded by jasmine, brambles, and mini meteors, encased in a decorative border.
Printed as a variable edition meaning that each print can have different colours, though all have a last layer of metallic gold (or silver for a blue option).
I have tried to photograph the prints with different light levels to show that the gold shines when it catches the light. The gold can appear as dark antique gold, or a lighter gold depending on the light source. The background layer colours can also look darker or lighter as it's difficult to photograph gold without it affecting the look of the other colours!
Printed in oil based ink on Fabriano Rosaspina 280gsm paper.
This print has been inspired by medieval illustrations found in 'herbals' which were books depicting plants and their uses, and medieval illuminated manuscripts. The subject matter is drawn directly from tulips that I grew myself for the first time this year. I began researching into 'Tulip Mania' in the Dutch Golden Age, where tulip bulbs could be bought for the price of a house. The meteors flying around tell something of this extroadinary time, as meteors and comets were viewed as auspicious, and the bringer of strange events.
*Please note: Colour choices in stock are gold and purple, gold and dark brown, and silver and dark blue.*
*Please note that customers in the European Union may be charged an additional customs fee to collect their package. I'm afraid that this is out of my control.*
Each printed is signed, dated and numbered in the edition. Arrives securely packaged in a hard backed package.
